2024-2025 Tryouts!

2024-2025-tryouts-feature

Pre-Tryout Clinics

Our “pre-tryout” clinics provide an opportunity for junior girl athletes to brush up on their volleyball skill sets and to help prepare them for our Tryouts for the 2024-2025 season.

All girls are welcome, including girls who are brand new to volleyball. You do not need to commit to trying out for Aftershock to attend these clinics. They are open to girls ages 9-18 regardless of intent to tryout or past volleyball experience.

The clinics give our coaches a preview of players’ skills, which combined with the tryouts, will help them to place players on teams that are best suited to their skill levels.

For those who do not plan to play club volleyball, these clinics will help participants practice their skills so they can perform better on their school teams or wherever they have access to a volleyball court!

The clinics will cover individual technical skills and position-specific skills. Practice drills will help athletes become stronger, more accurate, and more knowledgeable in their volleyball skills and the game of volleyball.

Club season begins in October!

We are pleased to announce that Aftershock Tryouts for the 2024-2025 season will be…

October 12, 13 and 19 for the 9-14 age divisions.

October 19, and 20 for the 15-18 age divisions.

Age divisions are per USA Volleyball Age Definitions.

NCVA and other volleyball organizations have authorized tryouts for girls in the 15-18 age divisions beginning July 26th. Though we are permitted to hold tryouts for the older age divisions as early as July 26, we are opting to hold them in October so all ages are trying out around the same time.

Our Reasons For This Decision

  • We have always taken pride in our belief that our focus should be on what’s best for players and their families. We truly care and believe that all aspects of well-being should be considered when preparing for our volleyball season.
  • Though we recognize the potential conflict for players who wish to tryout for multiple clubs with varying tryout schedules, we have decided that our tryouts for the 15-18 age divisions will take place closer to the end of the high school volleyball season.
  • Delaying club tryouts reduces competing demands which allows prospective players to focus on their high school season team tryouts and families to enjoy their planned summer vacations before the start of the school year.
  • In addition, we anticipate players will improve during their high school season. Holding tryouts near the end of the high school season will lead to more appropriate team placement for the player.
  • Finally, it doesn’t make sense to form teams in July but not be able to begin practicing until November 1.

Did you know?…

… that Letters of Commitment are not recognized between Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) and West Coast Volleyball Association (WCVA). This means that signing a Letter of Commitment with WCVA does not prohibit a player from trying out or signing a Letter of Commitment with Aftershock, or any member club of NCVA.

BOTTOM LINE:
You can still tryout and play for Aftershock Volleyball Club EVEN IF you have signed a Letter of Commitment with a WCVA Club. This is because we are members of the NCVA, not WCVA.

See About Letters of Commitment below for a more detailed explanation.

Tryout Info

We will be posting the tryouts schedules and locations soon. If you have signed up for club notifications, you will get an automatic notice. You can sign up to STAY UPDATED on club news through our website, or simply check the website in September for updates.

Pre-Tryout Clinics

We will have pre-tryout clinics on Sunday, September 29 and Sunday, October 6. These clinics are designed to help players prepare for tryouts. Please check our website in a few weeks for more details, or subscribe through our website to STAY UPDATED on club news.

Why choose Aftershock?

  • We strive to produce accomplished athletes while promoting a life-long love for the sport.
  • Skill development, confidence, and teamwork are emphasized in a competitive, yet supportive, environment.
  • We do our best to place players on a team that is in alignment with their skill level and where they have the best chance to build upon their skills and achieve their goals.
  • Our coaches are committed to all-around player development and well-being, and as NCVA members, have access to a multitude of coaching resources and training materials.
  • We respect and follow the rules and regulations as a model of good sportsmanship.
  • Our governing organization, NCVA, provides more varied and high-level competition opportunities and has years of experience with organizing tournaments.
  • Our primary focus is on the players and their developmental experience. We do this in concert with the support of players’ parents and families who we regard as our partners in this endeavor.

About Letters of Commitment

Clubs utilize “Letters of Commitment” within the same association (in our case NCVA) to prevent competition between clubs for players. Signing a NCVA Letter of Commitment with a particular club prevents other clubs in the same association from recruiting you to play for their club. If you wish to play for a different club from the one you “committed” to via the Letter of Commitment, you must get the club you signed with to “release” you from your commitment.

Again, the purpose of the Letter of Commitment is to secure a player’s commitment to ONE club within a club volleyball association and to prevent recruitment of that player by another club within the same association.

2020-2021 Club Season Update

11/17/20 Update – View our Covid Updates section for the latest club news regarding COVID-19.

We would like to update you on the current status of youth volleyball for the 2020-2021 season and our current plans for proceeding. Without a doubt, the current pandemic has caused a drastic change to things we once considered normal. We, NCVA, and USA Volleyball are all making the necessary adjustments to coincide with these changes. Here at Aftershock our primary focus is to provide a quality volleyball experience while keeping everyone safe. We are and will continue to abide by all guidelines set forth by the Sonoma County Health Order as well as by the state of California.

NCVA has established the Girls Program Advisory Committee (GPAC) – comprised of Club Directors and NCVA staff. This committee has been meeting for the last 6 weeks to discuss and establish plans for the re-opening of youth volleyball, once it is safe and permissible to do so. Here are the two plans that were established by NCVA and GPAC:

PLAN A

Currently the NCVA plans to start the 2020-2021 season as regularly scheduled with competitions beginning at the end of January. Please understand that this is the schedule as of today. Any changes or developments with the current pandemic may create changes to our season, but we have an optimistic plan to return.

TENTATIVE PLAN B

The NCVA and GPAC Committee are currently discussing plans for a tentative start date later in the season, if need be. We will update you on these options once we know further details.

TRYOUTS

Since traditional tryouts are not allowed, or safe, the NCVA in conjunction with the Girls Program Advisory Committee (GPAC) has determined that all clubs within the NCVA may offer roster spots to all returning and new players, beginning August 29, 2020 without a traditional tryout. It is felt that this change will ease the many pressures families and clubs are feeling during this turbulent time.

If your player would like to be considered for a position on a team with Aftershock for the 2020-2021 season, we invite you to complete our AVC Interest Form.

We will use the information we receive from your submission to gauge interest for the 2020-2021 season and if there is enough interest, we may begin formulating teams so that if and when we are given the green light from the county and state health authorities, we will be ready to get started!

Just as with tryouts there are no guarantees of placement on a team, however, we will do our best to place all interested players on teams most suitable for their position and skill level.

If you have not played for Aftershock before, we may arrange for a mini-tryout session (if we can do so safely) so we can assess your skill level for proper placement.

As always, we will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our members during our decision making and will keep each of you informed along the way.

While these past few months have been wrought with fears about the pandemic and wildfires, uncertainty about the future of America, unexpected job losses, and anxiety over sending our children back to school and figuring out new ways to learn, socialize, and work, we hope you are taking care of yourselves and are getting support where you need it.

Check back often for updates or subscribe to receive club news by email.

Feel free to contact Craig Hardisty, Club Director at (707) 479-9645 if you have any questions.

Tryout Update

Hi Everyone

We wanted to give you all an update tonight on tryouts, as promised.

It has certainly been one crazy week with this fire, the evacuations and families being displaced, the seemingly never-ending power outages, and the stress, fear, and anxiety that comes with the all too familiar Fire Season in Sonoma County.

In light of all that has happened this week and considering what we have all been through as a community, we have decided to cancel tryouts for this weekend, November 2nd and 3rd to give families the extra time to settle back into their homes and their routines.

In addition, Piner High School is currently cleaning their gym of all the smoke and ash, and we want to ensure that is concluded before we hold tryouts for everyone’s health and safety.

Tryouts for November 9th and 10th will be held as scheduled.

If you are unable to attend tryouts on the 9th and 10th, please contact our Club Director Craig Hardisty at (707) 479-9645, or our Director of Player Development Rich Schwarz at (707) 478-5593.

We are trying to reach as many people as we can with this information. If you all could help us do so by sharing with your friends, we would greatly appreciate it! Thank you.

Please enjoy your time with your family and friends this weekend, and we will see you next week!
