O-V-E-R, Over the Net
A short serving chant. Clichéd, but really effective.
O-V-E-R, Over the net (clap twice)
Serve it, serve it
Go (server’s name)!
Sideline-tested cheers and chants for club, school, and rec volleyball.
For serves. For defense. For the moment your team needs lifting at a time-out.
Courtside players have an important job: keeping the team's energy up. Cheers boost morale, encourage teammates, and put a little weight on the other side of the net. Pick a team name. Run through these. Find the ones that work for your group.
Two-syllable team names work best for chants, but multi-syllable names can fit too — you'll find some Aftershock-themed suggestions further down.
Short, percussive chants for the moment a teammate steps to the line.
A short serving chant. Clichéd, but really effective.
O-V-E-R, Over the net (clap twice)
Serve it, serve it
Go (server’s name)!
Short and sweet. Gets the message across to the other side of the net.
Uno, dos, uno dos tres
This next serve’s gonna be an ACE!
For Aces
ACE! A – C – E, ACE!
On the last “ACE,” raise an index finger in the air and stomp with one foot. Done by the players on court when their server lands an untouchable ball.
Defense calls, morale boosters, time-out lifters, and team-identity chants for the bench and the back row.
For Defense
Wooooosh (slide stepping in one direction) what was that?
Woooooosh (slide stepping the opposite direction) you hear that?
Never worry, never fear
That’s just (server’s name)’s ball flying past your ear!
For Hype
For boosting team morale.
3, 6, 9 our serves are fine
Bump it to me, set it to me one more time
Get low, get low, put yo kneepads on the flow
(everyone yells) YOU KNOW!
For Hype
If you want to tell another team they’re not in this match.
Hey hey
You get out of our way
Today is the day
We will put you away!
For Hype
OHHHHHH YEAH!
We’re bad,
We’ve got the game,
We can’t be had,
We’re the best,
Our team’s got steam (or “We are the cream!”)
We’ve got the stuff,
To rock your team!
Go (team name) GO!
For Time-Outs
When the situation is bad and the team needs lifting at a time-out.
We are the (your team name — two syllables works best)
The mighty, mighty (your team name)
We got the beat yeah
And it goes like this
Clap your hands together twice
Clap the hands of the cheerleaders next to you twice (or, if you’re on the end, clap your side)
Clap your hands in your lap twice
Stomp twice
For Hype
We’re number one
Can’t be number two
And we’re going to beat
The whoopee out of you!
Pick a Team Name
Two-syllable names tend to work best for cheers, but you can make multi-syllable names work too.
How (and When) to Cheer
A loud bench helps the team. A loud bench at the wrong moment hurts the game. Keep these in mind:
Don’t cheer when a player is hurt — on either team.
Cheering for every point is too much. Spacing out the cheers is the key.
If your team loses or misses a point, it’s not the time to cheer.
If either team is in a discussion with the officials, cheering stops.
Got a Better One?
Write it down. Tell us when it fires. We'll add it to the page and credit your team.
