Philosophy
“Always work on learning and improving. Put others above yourself, but take care of yourself so you can help support others. Volleyball is a team sport. Continue to help build good relationships with your teammates and always give effort.”
— Rob Beal
Biography
Rob picked up volleyball about 25 years ago after playing basketball for most of his life, and he loves playing the game as often as possible. He has coached with Aftershock since the club’s founding in 2009 and is currently the varsity coach at Montgomery High School. He also spent 9 years coaching at Santa Rosa High School.
One of his greatest strengths is building team chemistry, which he believes leads to stronger team play. He’s passionate about getting to know the young athletes on his team and helping them learn ways to cope with life’s challenges, combat anxiety and stress, and deal with conflict. He teaches how to win and lose with dignity and good sportsmanship.
Coaching is also a stress reliever for Rob: it allows him to be a mentor for young athletes and, in some cases, a positive male role model that they may be missing.
Outside of volleyball, Rob has been employed with the City of Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks Department for over 40 years.
