Summer All-Skills Clinics 2024

2024-all-skills-clinics-feature

Whether you are a beginner or a skilled player who wants to maintain their skills, this 6-week program has something for everyone. Our focus will be on developing individual technical skills (hitting, serving, passing, defense), and position specific skills (setters, hitters, passers, libero/defensive specialist, middle) to help you improve your technique and gain confidence on the court.

No prior volleyball experience is required. This program is open to all girls, whether or not they have played on a club or school team.

Participants

Girls ages 10–18. Help us spread the word and invite a friend to participate with you!

Clinics Overview

The remaining clinics will consist of practicing with your assigned group. These practice drills will help athletes to become stronger, more accurate, and more knowledgeable in their volleyball skills and the game of volleyball.

Participants will need to bring their own knee pads and water. Parents are welcome to attend to observe.

Club Season Begins in October!

We are pleased to announce that Aftershock Tryouts for the 2023-2024 season will be…

October 14, 15 and 21 for the 9-14 age divisions.

October 21, and 22 for the 15-18 age divisions.

Age divisions are per USA Volleyball Age Definitions.

  • NCVA and other volleyball organizations have authorized tryouts for girls in the 15-18 age divisions beginning July 28th.
  • Tryouts for the 9-14 age divisions are authorized to begin October 13th.

Though we are permitted to hold tryouts for the older age divisions as early as July 28, we are opting to hold them in October so all ages are trying out around the same time.

Our Reasons For This Decision

  • We have always taken pride in our belief that our focus should be on what’s best for players and their families. We truly care and believe that all aspects of well-being should be considered when preparing for our volleyball season.
  • Though we recognize the potential conflict for players who wish to tryout for multiple clubs with varying tryout schedules, we have decided that our tryouts for the 15-18 age divisions will take place closer to the end of the high school volleyball season.
  • Delaying club tryouts reduces competing demands which allows prospective players to focus on their high school season team tryouts and families to enjoy their planned summer vacations before the start of the school year.
  • In addition, we anticipate players will improve during their high school season. Holding tryouts near the end of the high school season will lead to more appropriate team placement for the player.
  • Finally, it doesn’t make sense to form teams in July but not be able to begin practicing until November 1.

Did you know?…

… that Letters of Commitment are not recognized between Northern California Volleyball Association (NCVA) and West Coast Volleyball Association (WCVA). This means that signing a Letter of Commitment with WCVA does not prohibit a player from trying out or signing a Letter of Commitment with Aftershock, or any member club of NCVA.

BOTTOM LINE:
You can still tryout and play for Aftershock Volleyball Club EVEN IF you have signed a Letter of Commitment with a WCVA Club. This is because we are members of the NCVA, not WCVA.

See About Letters of Commitment below for a more detailed explanation.

Tryout Info

We will be posting the tryouts schedules and locations soon. If you have signed up for club notifications, you will get an automatic notice. You can sign up to STAY UPDATED on club news through our website, or simply check the website in September for updates.

Pre-Tryout Clinics

We will have pre-tryout clinics on Sunday, October 1 and Sunday, October 8. These clinics are designed to help players prepare for tryouts. Please check our website in a few weeks for more details, or subscribe through our website to STAY UPDATED on club news.

Why choose Aftershock?

  • We strive to produce accomplished athletes while promoting a life-long love for the sport.
  • Skill development, confidence, and teamwork are emphasized in a competitive, yet supportive, environment.
  • We do our best to place players on a team that is in alignment with their skill level and where they have the best chance to build upon their skills and achieve their goals.
  • Our coaches are committed to all-around player development and well-being, and as NCVA members, have access to a multitude of coaching resources and training materials.
  • We respect and follow the rules and regulations as a model of good sportsmanship.
  • Our governing organization, NCVA, provides more varied and high-level competition opportunities and has years of experience with organizing tournaments.
  • Our primary focus is on the players and their developmental experience. We do this in concert with the support of players’ parents and families who we regard as our partners in this endeavor.

About Letters of Commitment

Clubs utilize “Letters of Commitment” within the same association (in our case NCVA) to prevent competition between clubs for players. Signing a NCVA Letter of Commitment with a particular club prevents other clubs in the same association from recruiting you to play for their club. If you wish to play for a different club from the one you “committed” to via the Letter of Commitment, you must get the club you signed with to “release” you from your commitment.

Again, the purpose of the Letter of Commitment is to secure a player’s commitment to ONE club within a club volleyball association and to prevent recruitment of that player by another club within the same association.

Return to Play Program – Session #2

We are continuing to offer an opportunity for female youth volleyball players to safely return to playing volleyball under public health and safety COVID protocols. This next session will involve more play time, scrimmages, and fun! We hope you can join us!

Who?

Girls ages 10 – 18. Beginners are welcome. No previous volleyball experience required.

What?

Following registration, we will send out an email to all participants with the dates and times for their practices and who their coaches will be.

Players can expect to spend about one third of the time doing drills and building skills, and two thirds of the time scrimmaging with other teams. Practice drills will focus on developing individual technical skills (serving, setting, digging, spiking, and blocking), team strategy, and conditioning your muscles for endurance.

We will be following the current Sonoma County health and safety protocols for team sports.

Space is limited, so register early to ensure your spot. We will be forming groups based on skill levels, ages, and positions to ensure a positive experience for the players.

We are aware that players may not have touched a volleyball in over a year. Please rest assured that players will receive instruction in the safe, caring, and nurturing environment that Aftershock is known for.

When?

  • July 6 – August 5, 2021
  • Tuesdays – Thursdays, between 5:30 and 9:00pm
  • Twice a week for 1-1/2 hours each practice

How?

Self Monitoring:

  • Participants will be expected to self-monitor for COVID symptoms.
  • Please stay home if you have any symptoms.
  • Let us know if you have contracted COVID, so we can initiate the contact tracing process.
  • Read the RETURN TO PLAY SAFETY PLAN.

On-Site Monitoring:

  • Temperatures will be taken at the door upon arrival to your clinic/practice session.
  • Players will sanitize their hands upon arrival (hand sanitizer will be provided) and can use the hand sanitizer as often as they wish.
  • Only 2 cohort teams per session. They will be separated by one court.
  • Balls and courts will be sanitized between sessions.
  • Face masks are required at all times.
  • Drills will be established to allow for distancing as much as possible.
  • Bring your own water, and do not share with others. This is a time when sharing is discouraged!
  • We’re very sorry but parents will not be permitted to be in the building to observe during this program. If your beginner player is somewhat shy, this may not be the best way to introduce them to the sport of club volleyball.

Program Location:

Santa Rosa, CA 95403

Cost:

  • $200 for the 5-week program, due on or before the player’s first clinic.
