Pre-Tryout Clinics

Our Pre-Tryout clinics provide an opportunity for junior girl athletes to brush up on their volleyball skillsets and to help prepare them for our Tryouts for the 2022-2023 season.

The clinics also give our coaches a preview of players’ skills, which combined with the tryouts, will help them to place players on teams that are best suited to their experience and skill levels.

The clinics will cover individual technical skills and position specific skills. Practice drills will help athletes become stronger, more accurate, and more knowledgeable in their volleyball skills and the game of volleyball.

All girls are welcome, including girls who are brand new to volleyball. You do not need to commit to trying out for Aftershock to attend these clinics. They are open to girls ages 10-18 regardless of intent to tryout or past volleyball experience.

When and Where? (All Ages)

Sundays, October 2 and 9.
Check-In: 12:30-1:00pm.
Clinic: 1:00-3:00pm.
Piner High School, 1700 Fulton Rd, Santa Rosa, CA 95403

  • Players may attend one or both clinics.
  • Players should arrive appropriately dressed, with kneepads.
  • Parents who wish to attend to observe may want to bring their own folding chair. Seating may be limited.

Cost

$25.00 for each clinic. We accept only cash, checks, money orders or cashier’s checks. If planning to attend both clinics, you will need to pay separately for each clinic.
 

2022-2023 Season Tryouts

Aftershock tryouts are open to all junior girl athletes. No invitation or past experience is necessary.

Every effort is made to place players on teams that are in alignment with their experience and skill sets.

Please refer to the USA Volleyball Junior Player Age Definition Chart to determine which age group tryout to attend.

UPDATE: Please note that the tryout dates have been changed from our previous post.

14 Years and Under

October 15 and 16

10-13 Years Old
Registration: 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm
Tryouts: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

14 Years Old
Registration: 3:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Tryouts: 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm


15 Years and Above

October 22 and 23

15 Years Old
Registration: 11:45 am – 12:30 pm
Tryouts: 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm

16-18 Years Old
Registration: 2:45 pm – 3:30 pm
Tryouts: 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

Cost
$50 for both days of tryouts. We accept cash, checks, money orders, or cashier’s checks. Participants are encouraged to attend both days of tryouts.

Tryout Registration Form
Please download and complete the Tryout Registration Form in advance of tryouts and bring it with your payment to your designated tryout. For those who are unable to download and print out the form in advance, we will have blank forms available at tryouts.

 

Other Information

  • An optional informational meeting with the Club Director will be provided at each tryout approximately 15 minutes after the start of the tryout. Parents new to Aftershock are encouraged to attend one informational meeting.
  • Member handbooks will also be available at tryouts, which includes the Fee Schedule, Competition Schedules, and information about the club and how we operate.
  • Parents/families who wish to stay to observe may wish to bring their own folding chairs.
  • We will follow CDC and CDPH COVID-19 guidance for indoor youth sports programs. We ask participants to self-monitor and to stay home if they are running a fever or have any other COVID-19 or other illness symptoms.
  • If you are unable to attend tryouts due to illness, please let the Club Director know so he can work with you on a possible solution. [email protected].

First Team Practice/Parent Meeting and Member Sign-Ups

Following tryouts, the coaches will contact players/parents with team placement information. Upon acceptance, players/parents will be informed of next steps, including what time to show up on October 30th for the first team/parent meeting and club member sign-ups. So, please hold this date on your calendars so you don’t miss this mandatory team/parent meeting & practice.

Save the date! 2022-2023 Tryouts!

Save the date!

Aftershock Tryouts will be…

October 15 and 16 for the 11-14 age divisions.

October 22 and 23 for the 15-18 age divisions.

Age groups are per USA Volleyball Age Definitions.

NCVA and other volleyball organizations have authorized tryouts for girls in the 15-18 age divisions beginning July 29.

We have always taken pride in our belief that our focus should be on what’s best for players and their families. We truly care and believe that all aspects of well-being should be considered when preparing for our volleyball season.

Though we recognize the potential conflict for players who wish to tryout for multiple clubs with varying tryout schedules, we have decided that our tryouts for this age group will take place following the high school volleyball season.

Delaying club tryouts allows prospective players to focus on their high school season team tryouts and families to enjoy their planned summer vacations before the start of the school year. This lessens any anxiety with players participating in simultaneous tryouts (club and school) and allows families to not stress about returning from vacation early.

In addition, we expect players to improve during their high school season. Holding tryouts near the end of the high school season will lead to more appropriate team placement for the player.

Finally, it doesn’t make sense to us to form teams in July but not be able to begin practicing until November, as per NCVA regulations.

Thus, tryouts for girls in the 15–18 age divisions will take place on October 22 and 23.

One final thought: If the trend in club volleyball is toward becoming a year-round sport, we must be very conscientious about overuse and injury prevention in order to keep everyone healthy, excited and inspired all year long.

Tryouts for Girls in the 11-14 Age Divisions

NCVA has authorized tryouts for girls in the 11-14 age divisions to begin October 15.

Therefore, tryouts for girls in the 10-14 age divisions will take place on October 15 and 16.

Times and Locations

We will be posting the tryouts schedules and locations soon. If you have signed up for club notifications, you will get an automatic notice. Otherwise, please check back here in mid-September for more details.

Summer All-Skills Clinics 2022

Whether you are a beginner or a skilled player who wants to maintain their skills, this 5-week program has something for everyone. Our focus will be on developing individual technical skills (hitting, serving, passing, defense), and position specific skills (setters, hitters, passers, libero/defensive specialist, middle) to help you improve your technique and gain confidence on the court.

No prior volleyball experience is required. This program is open to all girls, whether or not they have played on a club or school team.

Who?

Girls ages 10 – 18. Help us to spread the word and invite a friend to participate with you!

What?

The first one or two clinics will be to evaluate participants’ abilities in order to place them in a group with similar skills and experience.

The remaining clinics will consist of practicing with your assigned group. These practice drills will help athletes to become stronger, more accurate, and more knowledgeable in their volleyball skills and the game of volleyball.

When?

  • June 15 – July 14, 2022
  • Wednesdays and Thursdays
    • 10-14 years old: 6:00-7:30pm
    • 15-18 years old: 7:30-9:00pm
  • Twice a week for 1-1/2 hours each clinic

If you are 14 years old and you played on a 15’s club team this year, please come to the clinics for the 15-18 year old age group.

Where?

Parking at the site is limited, but there is usually additional no-cost parking available across the street during the evening hours.

How?

Participants will need to bring their own knee pads, water, and face mask (if they desire to wear one).

Self Monitoring
  • Participants will be expected to self-monitor for COVID symptoms.
  • Please stay home if you have any symptoms.
  • Let us know if you have contracted COVID, so we can initiate the contact tracing process.
On-Site Monitoring
  • Hand sanitizer will be on-site.
  • Face masks are not required but are recommended.
  • Proof of vaccine is not required.
  • Parents may attend clinics to observe.

Cost

  • $250 for the 5-week program, due on or before the player’s first clinic.
  • We only accept checks or cash. Your player may bring payment with the completed and signed WAIVER OF LIABILITY FORM to their first clinic or you may mail a check and the form to:
